The Dome of the Pantheon inspires a circle-shaped LED light
Teknoware delivered the indoor train illumination for the renovation project of the Netherlands’ DDZ commuter trains. This project was significant because it concerned one of the first group of trains to be completely illuminated by LEDs. The renovation was carried out by the Dutch company, NedTrain, with about 200 double-decker railroad cars being involved in the project.
An additional lighting demand to be met on the project were the new design requirements, which could only be realised by using LED lights. One example is the very low, circle-shaped light measuring about a metre in diameter delivered as part of the project, whose inspiration comes from the dome opening of the Pantheon temple in Rome. It was only possible to achieve this solution using LED technology combined with special optics.
About ten various types of lights—the largest of which uses 100 LEDs—were delivered for the illumination of the railroad cars. Teknoware utilises mathematical modelling, along with a variety of LEDs, to achieve the colour of the light required.
