Lighting Control Solutions for Rolling Stock

Teknoware offers a range of Lighting Control Units (LCUs) to manage and control the interior lighting of trains, trams and other rolling stock. The LCU can be connected to the train’s own computer via the Train Control Network, via another similar network (e.g. RS-485), or with input/output signals. The LCU can also send diagnostic data to the train’s computer providing information which maintenance personnel can use when planning future maintenance work.

Intelligent lighting control

The evolution of rail travel is moving at an ever-increasing speed—not just on the tracks but inside rail cars too. Teknoware now uses Ethernet connectivity and the Internet of Things to deliver new levels of efficiency and cohesiveness in lighting solutions for all types of rolling stock. The Teknoware NXC Series is a prime example of this, offering a range of different solutions for intercity trains, commuter trains, trams and retrofit lighting projects.

Easy operability

There are a multitude of possibilities presented by Lighting Control Units (LCUs) which can, in many cases, be conveniently controlled via a web browser that serves as an interface providing a wide range of maintenance tools and parameters that ensure smooth and agile operation. Lighting can be adjusted to fit any scenario that may arise.

Human Centric Lighting (HCL)

Human Centric Lighting makes it possible to control the white light intensity and temperature according to the time and date, and so can be used to mimic natural sunlight conditions. For example, different monthly schedules can be set up to follow the natural sunrise and sunset schedules.

LED lighting can be used to match our natural circadian rhythm, but it can also have more playful applications such as programming RGB lighting to match the colours of a local sports team, or seasonal themes to celebrate festive holidays. The intelligent use of lighting can even prevent potential overcrowding situations during rush hours, by directing passengers to less congested parts of the train.

Greater efficiency and comfort with Active Lighting Control

Active Lighting Control uses sensors to adjust the interior lighting of the carriage according to external factors, such as daylight. The control unit can be set to meet minimum lighting requirements, in which case the desired lighting level is obtained through the optimal use of the lights, resulting in minimal energy consumption and maximum LED lifetime.

Teknoware Traintelligence™ (Train-IQ™)

Teknoware Traintelligence™, also referred to as Train-IQ™ for short, is the next generation in lighting systems. The system encompasses comprehensive data gathering capabilities with an extraordinary level of control down to individual components. Train-IQ™ offers a wide range of new opportunities for train operators to enhance the experience of passengers.

Teknoware Traintelligence™ is a bidirectional 4-wire bus that offers individual control of each luminaire, as well as enabling individual monitoring and diagnostics of each luminaire separately. The luminaires can also be controlled as groups and these groups can be reconfigured if needed. All changes to the lighting are made in a smooth manner, in such a way that there will be no noticeable immediate changes to the colour or intensity. This ensures that changes in the lighting are both pleasant for the passengers and largely unnoticeable.
